About EPIQ  »  EPIC I
 EPIC - the original study

EPIQ evolved from the 2002-5 EPIC (Evidence-based Practice Identification and Change) study funded by CIHR. Twelve tertiary neonatal care units were assigned to either the Chronic Lung Disease / Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Group or the Nosocomial Infection Group. In the first year baseline data was collected, teams were formed and received training at a workshop, and then practice changes were researched and implemented using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles. We found that EPIC practice changes resulted in reduced incidence of BPD and NI.
